Eight horses are currently declared for the Ladbrokes St Leger, with the one-mile six furlong race the last of the English Classic races during the Flat calendar and it’s set to be an exciting tussle.
Four horses are trading at single figure odds, with Simple Verse and Vengeur Masque hard to rule out considering some of the upsets that we have witnessed in high profile races this season.
However, Storm the Stars has been well supported in the lead-up to this race, with Paddy Power one of the few firms to hold steady with their 5/2 quote about this exciting horse that won the Great Voltigeur.
William Haggas is sure to have his charge in fine fettle for ground which could have plenty of cut in it, with the trainer saying: “He’s the one they have to beat at Doncaster. The others need to improve to beat him – I’m not saying they won’t, but they need to. I think he’ll be more effective over a mile and three-quarters. He wants this trip.”
Aidan O’Brien is typically out in force for the St Leger, with Order of St George among those lining up for the Irishman and he could go off as favourite if the latest odds are to be believed.
Perhaps the latter will find plenty considering Order of St George has been more lightly-raced this season although we’re happy to take Haggas at his word and go with Stars to Storm all the way to the line!
