Liverpool were strong favourites to beat Chelsea in this fixture last season, with the Reds on the verge of winning the Premier League title although a Steven Gerrard slip led to a defeat and ultimately second place.
This season, the hangover from the end of last season has continued although perhaps that is mainly down to the departure of Luis Suarez, with the Uruguayan accounting for more Premier League goals than any player last term.
With the international break approaching, some kind of positive result is imperative for Liverpool this season if they are to challenge for a top four spot this term, with a goalless draw against Hull followed by last weekend’s 1-0 reverse at Newcastle.
However, it is Chelsea who look the best bet for this game and odds with Boylesports, Coral and Paddy Power of 23/20 about the visitors looks tasty, with Jose Mourinho able to successfully rotate his team for the Champions League trip to Maribor this week.
Chelsea are unbeaten so far this season, having dropped points at Old Trafford and the Etihad after taking the lead, although such a toothless Liverpool attack is unlikely to cause the title favourites too many problems.
William Hill and Ladbrokes both offer 23/20 although there is a case to be made for a Chelsea win to nil at 3/1, with Daniel Sturridge potentially being risked against his former club due to the lack of firepower coming from Mario Balotelli.
A Liverpool win would shake up the title race and betfair offer 5/2 about a home win for the Merseyside club which would get their season back on track heading into the international break.
